If I am at all typical of many who support Barack Obama in his quest for the Presidency, then his explanations for why he took so long to separate himself from Rev. Wright's messages of hate remain unsatisfactory. It is not good enough to admit in general to human frailties and imperfections, unless the frailty he refers to is wanting and deciding to please his wife even at the cost of violating his own strongly held values.
What if it was Michele who felt most strongly about continuing with Rev. Wright's Church? What if the continuing affiliation reflected his having acceded to her wishes? If that were the case he would never admit it in public and perhaps not even to himself. He would have to take the full responsibility on his shoulders, just as he has done. This would make his continuing decision to retain his affiliation at least understandable and entirely human. Husbands all over the land could understand what compromises sometimes seem necessary for our loved ones.
Understand that this is just speculation on my part, but it fits some of the known facts better than anything else I've heard. It should be clear that I sincerely want to believe the best about Barack, but this issue remains troubling.

Pretty weak. I have no doubt that Ms O was ecstatic in her racist rejoycing but I'm convinced that Mr O stayed for the political power he was accumulating.
