McCain's "Irresponsibility" Labeling Cuts Both Ways

April 9, 2008 / by fixed845inc

When John McCain accuses anyone (short for Hillary and Barack ) who has the temerity to recommend a deadline for withdrawing the bulk of our troops from Iraq, of being "irresponsible", he risks having others examine more closely his own bona fides as the one and only "responsible actor" in the race for the Presidency.

The President of the US has responsibility for much more than a military victory in Iraq. The health, safety and welfare of all Americans should have some standing among his/her many priorities. The beleaguered American economy is not unaffected by our massive expenditures on this one theater of military operations. Then there are the sorely stretched military that is fighting that battle and the families of the troops. There are too other theaters of operations (Afghanistan and Pakistan) which are being deprived of resources

Our resources of military personnel and treasure are finite. Iraq has proven to be a bottomless pit. We have to acknowledge that it is a zero sum game. What is thrust at Iraq has to be torn from our selves. We have reached the point where we have long since cut through the fat, now we are tearing at muscle, sinew, and bone.

Who is really being "Irresponsible"?
