Our Liability for Iraq

July 21, 2006 / by fixed845inc

In 2008 George Bush and Dick Cheney will be gone. While in office under our name they have incurred the total panoply of liabilities that we will carry well into the future.

We the present and future citizens of this country and our progeny will bear the burden of those liabilities in one form or another long after they have left the responsibility of office.

Putting aside those liabilities which are simply financial in nature, and those are enormous, I am staggered by the weight that the others represent.

The death and dismemberment of thousands upon thousands of Americans and Iraqis'.

A (quasi) civil war that is daily continuing to kill and maim more Iraqis' than Saddam did.

The overthrow of a sovereign nation that was not directly involved in 9/11.

The conversion of that nation into a training field for terrorists.

Our responsibility for the health and welfare of the Iraqi people.

The provision of a cause that has and will in the future stimulate the genesis of an unending number of terrorists.

Encouraged the coordination and cooperation among terrorists and terrorist states within and without the region.

That my friends is quite a burden.

First off Iraq was not a sovereign nation in the sense that the people enjoyed autonomy. They were ruled by a tyrant who for more than several decades used terror and mass murder to demand the forxced alligence of his subjects. The mass graves in the desert and in the courtyards of Iraq's prisons speak for the sovereignty of that Nation. Have you ever had a conversation with an Iraqi who lost both hands because he upset one of Saddams sons(, maybe he did not answer a question well enough), or an Iraqi woman who was beaten and sexually abused because she happened to be the wife of a businessman that upset one of Saddams son's? I spoke to a number of Iraqi's who layed their weapons down and surrendered to us during the first gulf war, as well as Kuwati's who were abused and tortured. Iraq has a chance at self rule and now the Sunni's and shia's need to get their shit together and learn to self govern together. Then together they could easily drive out the terrorists. The Iraqi people need to stand together.

Sovereign means state control without outside interference. It also refers to a supreme ruler. That is what Iraq was. Citizen autonomy is characteristic of a democracy. That is not what Iraq was,

Everything else you say is true.[THUMBUP]
