Everyone wanted so badly for this to work, the first female anchoring a major network, that the news department went all out to make it happen. All the buildup to the event and the fanfare of a specially prepared musical background. Then there were the news stories a couple of which were truly special particularly the exclusive video clip depicted against the beautiful but rugged countryside of Afghanistan. It was a sunny day matched only by the smiling and handsome faces of a proud band of Taliban soldiers and their weapons cache, including many bandoleers of ammunition strung casually over their shoulders as if they were part of a uniform. It was a good news story, from our enemies perspective, prepared and presented by the female corespondent in the field.
Then Katie held an interview with Tom Friedman of the Times. He is always interesting to listen to, regardless of who asks the questions. That was good but, not unexpectedly, brief. Later Katie announced that tomorrow she will be holding an exclusive interview with our President. That's another coup by her employer but will present a huge test for her so very early in the game. Now that she is on the mound will the President be expecting softballs? She has to prove otherwise, that she is capable of a change of pace.
My feeling was that there was a great deal of emphasis on background and hype to make this a success. Meanwhile, in the foreground stood a subdued Katie, miniaturized by her elaborate surroundings. One inconsequential feature that did make her look bigger was her overly tight white jacket. Small mature women do not look attractive in that kind of attire even if, as my wife informs me, it is in style.

Your comment reminded me of an additional segment she introduced, one under the banner of Free Speech. On yesterdays show it was a call for the putting forward the interests of middle America, those who are not rabidly blue or red. There is an apparent recognition that she/they have a reputation they hope to disprove. Time will tell.
Yup, as was Connie Chung. This being a solo anchor is considered as another level. [THUMBUP]
